What Is A jamboree ?????
The definition of Jamboree in the dictionary is a meeting of friends and that is what the Swedish Jamboree is going to be, a meeting of friends. Basically it will be one big party. 40,000 Scouts will come together for eleven days to make new friends and learn about each others culture; beliefs and their new friend’s way of life.
Every four years the Scouts of the World get together in a different part of the world to hold a World Jamboree and in 2011 it’s to be in Sweden near Rinkaby, not far from Kristianstand. The site we are using has been tried and tested as it has been used by the Swedish Scouts for their National Jamboree. Consequently the entire infrastructure is already installed and ready for the World Jamboree. This large site is marked off into sub camps which are separated by trees and an internal road structure; also it is not far from a large lake that will be used for the water activities. The soil is very sandy so long tent pegs will be needed.
During the Jamboree there will be a programme of adventure and high tech activities to “Simply Scouting” activities which is the Swedish Logo for the Jamboree. This will be an opportunity of a life time and an experience that will not be forgotten by those lucky Scouts who have been selected to attend. |
